JOHANNESBURG - There have been more delays in the case of paediatric surgeon accused of murder, Peter Beale, with the matter now postponed to next week.

Beale, who is facing three counts of murder and two counts of fraud in connection with the deaths of three children he operated on, made another appearance in the Johannesburg High Court on Wednesday.

It was his second appearance in the dock this week. His trial was set to get underway on Monday but the case wound up being postponed to Wednesday.

On Monday, the matter was postponed for the court to consider appointing an assessor.

And Judge Thifhelimbilu Mudau, who’s presiding over the matter decided he would like to do so.

However, he was still in the process of finalising the appointment.

The court heard on Wednesday that he hopes to have done so by next week Monday, and for the trial to finally get underway then.

In the meantime, Beale is out on bail of R10,000.
