Lester Kiewit speaks to musician, Zwai Bala.

Listen to the interview in the audio below.

Zwai Bala was at a restaurant in Gordon's Bay with his family earlier this month when a group of five white men allegedly began racially harassing them.

His brother Lwando had gone to take some pictures of the view, and returned looking distressed and said he was being attacked by racists.

Shortly after this, Bala says that the group of five came and started attacking them physically and hurling racial slurs at them.

“The one guy said I feel like ‘moering’ a K-word today.”

Bala says he was trying to stop and de-escalate the situation but to no avail as the racist group continued to attack them.

He adds that when the restaurant manager intervened, it was to tell him and his friends to go out a different door, rather than stopping the group attacking them.

One of the offenders has been arrested, charged, and has appeared in court.
