JOHANNESBURG - After a two-month long recess, the trial into the murder of Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa is expected to resume in the Pretoria High Court on Monday morning.
The five men accused of the football star’s 2014 murder will return to the dock where they face a litany of charges, including murder and armed robbery.
Meyiwa was shot at the Vosloorus home of his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo in October 2014.
The five accused will take their familiar spots on the benches of the Pretoria High Court as the matter kicks off where it ended in November.
The trial is in a process of what’s called a trial within a trial where the admissibility of confession statements by two of the accused is being determined.
When the matter last adjourned, the lawyer for the first two accused Thulani Mngomezulu asked for a premature halt.
"My lord we have discussed with my colleagues, I have indicated to them that I am not feeling well," said Mngomezulu.
The lead investigator Bongani Gininda was on the witness stand, testifying on how two of the accused Bongani Ntanzi and Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya’s confession statements were taken.
Mngomezulu will resume his cross-examination on Monday morning.
