CAPE TOWN - Police in Mpumalanga have recovered more than 20 stolen vehicles in the province since the beginning of 2024.
Among the stolen vehicles was a truck hijacked in Standerton on Friday, understood to have been transporting soya when it was forced off the road by armed assailants.
Police said the driver was then robbed of his belongings before one of the suspects drove off in the truck.
The 45-year-old suspect was later arrested.
Spokesperson for Mpumalanga police, Donald Mdluli said the suspect is expected to appear in court on Monday on charges of hijacking.
"The matter was then escalated to the security cluster, which led to this truck being spotted as it got into Standerton.
“They tried to stop him. However, he refused and collided with the security vehicle, which he bumped from behind."
