JOHANNESBURG - Emergency teams in Joburg will on Sunday morning resume the search for a woman who was washed away by flash floods in Sunninghill over a week ago.

The victim was driving home to Cosmo City last week Friday when her car was overpowered by water on Witkoppen Road.

The accident took place following heavy downpours in parts of Gauteng that led to flooding.

On Saturday, one team searched for the victim in Lanseria along the Juskei River while another searched in the Crocodile River.

Both teams turned up empty-handed.

Johannesburg emergency spokesperson Xolile Khumalo said teams are expected to resume the search operation near the Leeuwkop Prison in Sunninghill.

"EMS urges the community of Johannesburg to keep away from flooded rivers please do not perform any ceremonies in the rivers during this time."
