JOHANNESBURG - Some matriculants in Johannesburg said they struggled to get their results from the Department of Education’s website due to an apparent glitch.

A massive increase in traffic caused the website to crash in the early hours of Friday morning as individual matric marks were released.

It's understood the portal stopped working as thousands of users flocked to it to check their National Senior Certificate (NSC) results.

Eyewitness News caught up with matriculants who relayed their experience of the portal this morning.

“After 2 hours, we got two results via SMS and then the system crashed,” one matriculant said.

“Last night, we went onto the results.gov website, and it crashed. We waited 30 minutes, and nothing was happening. We sent an SMS, but nothing was coming through. It was just the delay that was giving me a little bit of stress,” said another.

Meanwhile, some pupils encouraged their peers who may not have performed as desired to not give up.

“They shouldn’t be hard on themselves. It should be something that they learn from,” encouraged one pupil.

“This is not the be all and end all – it’s not the end of the world. It’s just motivation to come back even stronger,” another echoed.

“We don’t give up. We just keep on pushing and pushing. Hard work finally pays off and God will never disappoint,” a matriculant said.
