JOHANNESBURG - The Collins Chabane Foundation has said attempts by the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party, supported by former President Jacob Zuma, to visit the deceased minister's grave would be a violation of his memory.

The foundation and the family of a former MK commander, the late Peter "Dambuza" Malada, distanced themselves from the recently formed MK Party.

They both objected to a poster released during the week, sharing plans by Zuma and the new organisation to visit the graves of the two African National Congress (ANC) veterans this weekend.

Zuma is attempting to take his campaign against the governing ANC to Limpopo for the first time.

This weekend will see former Zuma attempting to break away from criticism that he’s nothing more than a tribalist seeking to disrupt the ANC across Zulu-speaking regions in the country.

However, his planned visit to Limpopo has already been met with some resistance, mostly by the families of the two former MK combatants.

Both Chabane and Dambuza’s loved ones are calling on supporters to rally behind the ANC.

Chabane’s foundation said that while the late minister was loyal to Zuma and campaigned fiercely for him to become president, he remained committed to the governing party.

The chairperson of his foundation, Professor Muxe Nkondo, said it was alarming to hear Zuma wanted to use the memory of Chabane to further the agenda of a splinter party.

“That’s a violation of Collins Chabane’s entire legacy.”

Zuma’s meet and greet programme includes engagements with traditional leaders and the business sector, among others.
