CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) has lauded 103 high schools in the province for their contribution of almost 13,000 units of blood during 2023.

Outeniqua High School, Protea Heights Academy, Worcester Gymnasium and Fish Hoek High School were among the top ten schools that collected the most units of blood.

The organisation said that while the need for blood and blood products continued to increase annually, it's vital to increase the active donor base.

The blood service's Marike Carli said the youth played an important role in the sustainability of the organisation and that's why they continued to forge good ties with educational institutions to set up blood donation clinics on their premises.

"We therefore urge high schools to contact us to see how they can get involved with blood donation. Visit www.wcbs.org.za for the other high schools that made the top ten or for more information to get in contact with us."
