EC police nab 2 more suspects concerning deadly Port St Johns shooting

JOHANNESBURG - Eastern Cape police nabbed two more suspects concerning a taxi-war-related shooting in Port St Johns, bringing the total number of arrests to eleven.
The incident happened at the town’s taxi rank and included in the victims was an 11-year-old boy.
Fifteen firearms, including pistols, AK 47s, shotguns, and rifles, as well as 328 rounds of ammunition have been recovered by police in the Eastern Cape following Tuesday’s deadly Port St Johns shooting.
The 11 suspects arrested in connection with the incident have been charged with murder, attempted murder, malicious property damage, discharging firearms in a built-up municipal area, and public violence.
Eastern Cape provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Lillian Mene, said talks to resolve the violence were underway.
“We were also made aware that there are dialogues that are currently underway involving relevant stakeholders and both taxi associations, with the aim of putting an end to this feud.”
Meanwhile, parts of the R61 entering Port St Johns have been blocked off by hundreds of taxis.
Police were monitoring the situation.
