CAPE TOWN - Firefighters have managed to contain a wildfire on the mountain slopes above Boyes Drive.

Aerial support was grounded earlier on Tuesday and resources will now also be scaled down.

Fire and Rescue Services said that ground crews would work throughout the night and be on standby to monitor for any flare ups.

Boyes Drive has been reopened.

There's also a fire in Franschhoek and the Cape Winelands District Municipality’s Jo-Anne Otto has details: "The fire is burning in an aged plantation in the area above the Robertsvlei Road and is burning towards private properties. Fire teams are engaged in active firefighting."

She said that several resources had been deployed.

"Seven major firefighting vehicles and crew from the Cape Winelands and their three contracted ground teams from NCC, two choppers from Leading Edge Aviation and one chopper from the provincial disaster management centre."
