AUC political party is not linked to Shembe church, leadership confirms
This was clarified by party leader Lizwi Ncwane during a one-on-one interview with Eyewitness News on Wednesday afternoon.
DURBAN - The newly-formed political party Afrika Unite Congress (AUC) said although most of its members are from the Shembe church - the party is not fully linked to the church.
This was clarified by party leader Lizwi Ncwane during a one-on-one interview with Eyewitness News on Wednesday afternoon.
The AUC was formed by members from the Shembe church - which has thousands of followers across the country.
“It's been formed by multiple people, however those that were the initial originators of the idea are the members of the church - the Nazareth Baptist Church. But I must state that the organisation is not linked to the church," said Ncwane.
Many know him as the secretary-general of the Shembe church committee.
Ncwane said it's some of the church members who pushed for the formation of the party.
“We are of the view that for the past 30 years, there are crucial things that are fondly with us as Africans that have not been entertained to our satisfaction.”
He added that the party would be looking to highlight the grievances people have with the current government.
