JOHANNESBURG – African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Fikile Mbalula said the new leadership of the youth league must ensure the structure never faces another disbandment.

Its National Executive Committees (NEC) have been dissolved twice since 2012.

The league is expected elect its new leadership at Nasrec on Saturday afternoon.

A chorus of boos greeted Mbalula as he stepped up to the podium to deliver his opening address on Saturday.

Members from KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) began singing struggle songs and disrupting his speech.

The province further showed discontent when Mbalula addressed the misconduct he said was shown by some delegates who he accused of blatantly trying to collapse the conference.

He said the youth leaguers will have to unite, to avoid the league facing yet another disbandment.

“This conference of the youth league will never convene if we were to go according to the standards of people who want to collapse the ANC at any given time.

Mbalula adds that youth leaguers should stop fighting each other - insisting that internal squabbles will be the downfall of the league.
