CAPE TOWN - A woman has been killed in what is believed to be a gang-related attack in which eight people, including three children, were shot in Montclair, in Cape Town.

She died in hospital following the drive-by shooting at a birthday party on Saturday night.

The police’s Andre Traut said, “At around 20:20pm occupants of a green Honda Ballade fired randomly at guests attending a birthday party at a residence in Montclair Drive Mandalay and then fled the scene. The eight victims, aged between 5 and 26, were admitted to hospital where the 24-year-old female later succumbed to her injuries.”

Three children aged 5, 12 and 13 are among the seven victims who remain in hospital.

Additional police and law enforcement officers have been deployed to the area in a bid to restore calm.

The City of Cape Town's Safety and Security Mayco member JP Smith visited the crime scene and explained, “It was allegedly gang-related. There seems little motive for two people to show up and open fire on a whole group of people at a party, unless there is somebody at the party who they intend to harm. [However] it's not healthy to speculate when they're [SAPS] undertaking a criminal investigation."

What's called a 72-hour activation plan has been launched to bring the perpetrators to book.
