During the service, her father Moses Tembe stated that the family did not believe she was suicidal nor that she took her own life.

His tribute was read out by a family friend Sandile Zhungu: “Not a single member of y family would’ve associated Anele with suicide, living would’ve not been Anele’s challenge. On the contrary, Anele loved herself so much that she wanted to live more rather than less. As her father, I hereby state categorically that Anele was not suicidal nor did she commit suicide.”

He also spoke about the scourge of substance abuse amongst the youth.

“We need to understand the forces that out us in a situation that we find ourselves. Of course, we must – as a matter of extreme priority – deal with the scourge that bedevils of our youth; alcohol, which is is overused and drugs.”
