CAPE TOWN - Taxi violence has exploded across parts of Cape Town.

The police's taxi task team is investigating another shooting, the second in the city in less than 24 hours, in which five people were killed in Nyanga.

Three others were wounded in that attack.

Police said that seven of the victims were sitting in a car on Monday night when suspects opened fire on them at the Nyanga taxi rank.

The police's Novela Potelwa said that the motive was likely related to lingering tensions in the taxi industry.

"Detectives from the taxi task team are investigating a shooting incident that occurred at the Nyanga terminus on Monday evening. Police have since bolstered deployment and identified potential hot spots."

Just hours earlier, commuters were sent running for cover when a shooting erupted at the Cape Town station deck.

Six people were wounded and an arrest was made just minutes later.

A second suspect is now behind bars.

It's unclear at this stage if these attacks are linked.
