Maile promises Tshwane administrator, team by today
Gauteng Cooperative Governance MEC Lebogang Maile said all the necessary measures had been taken to ensure that services were delivered efficiently.
JOHANNESBURG – Gauteng Cooperative Governance MEC Lebogang Maile says an administrator will be appointed on Friday along with a team that will run the Tshwane metro after it was formally placed under administration.
The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) confirmed the dissolution of the municipal council on Thursday.
Maile said all the necessary measures had been taken to ensure that services were delivered efficiently.
He spoke on the Eusebius Mckaiser Show on Friday.
“We will be appointing an administrator and they will work with senior managers in the city.”
DA NOT HAPPY WITH COUNCIL BEING DISSOLVED
Meanwhile, the DA has criticised the move to dissolve the council.
The ANC and EFF tried more than five times to remove DA officials through motions of no confidence.
The DA was not impressed as member of Parliament Crenaze Bosch explained:
“Cogta failed once again to hold Lebogang Maile accountable for the misleading information that is being shared."
Eight of the nine provinces supported the motion while the Western Cape said the move is illegal.
Maile said it was a victory for them.
“We welcome the report with all its recommendations.”
The DA will challenge the decision next week at the High Court in Pretoria and if it fails, an administrator will be appointed and by-elections held within 90 days.
