Lesotho musician, 2 others implicated in murder of Lipolelo Thabane
Lipholelo was Lesotho Prime Minister’s Tom Thabane’s second wife who was murdered in 2017. The first lady of the mountain kingdom, Maesiah, has also been charged for the murder.
JOHANNESBURG - Lesotho police have issued warrants of arrest for three more accused persons for the murder of Prime Minister Tom Thabane's estranged wife Lipolelo.
The trio include legendary traditional music icon Rethabile Chakela Sello, Seabata Sello and Molefi Matima.
This brings the number of accused persons to five, including first lady Maesiah Thabane and the prime minister.
The name of Chakela is synonymous with traditional music turf wars in Lesotho and South Africa.
He has been linked to Lipolelo Thabane’s murder by people including Prime Minister Tom Thabane’s daughter, who later apologised.
But police have now put the South African-based musician on their wanted list with two other suspects.
First lady Maesiah Thabane has been charged but the constitutional court is yet to decide if Prime Minister Tom Thabane can be charged while still in office.
