HARARE - Amid fears that Zimbabwe will not be able to deal with a positive case of coronavirus infection, a suspected patient tested negative.

The 27-year-old woman arrived in Harare from China on Wednesday and has been quarantined.

The woman had recently been to Wuhan, the Chinese city at the centre of the coronavirus outbreak.

Zimbabwe's state broadcaster said she had already tested negative for coronavirus in China.

But on arrival, the woman was taken to Wilkins Infectious Diseases Hospital, in Harare, where more tests were done.

Despite testing negative, she will be monitored for the next three weeks.

The woman’s arrival and isolation triggered intense speculation on social media in Zimbabwe, where critics say the struggling health system in the country would not cope with an outbreak of coronavirus.
