KATLEHONG - A grade six pupil was shot dead after being caught in the crossfire between rival taxi associations in Katlehong.

It’s understood the shooting happened outside the Izibuko Primary School on Wednesday afternoon.

The child was standing outside the school when she was hit by a stray bullet.

Teaching and learning were not disrupted at the school on Thursday.

It's understood the pupil died at a local hospital this morning while one person belonging to a taxi association died during the shooting.

The Gauteng Education Department said that the 12-year-old had been at the school to see a friend yesterday.

At this stage, it remains unclear what the fight between the taxi associations was about.
