JOHANNESBURG - US rapper Cardi B made history at the 61st Grammy Awards and women who paved the way for artists like her have given her props.

Cardi B won her first Grammy, becoming the first woman to win the award for Best Rap Album for her Invasion of Privacy.

Conversations on social media fast turned into a competition between her and rapper Nicki Minaj, with some saying that Cardi's win shows Nicki has fallen off the hip-hop scene.

While there are arguments over whether she deserved the album or not, most people - including legends Lil Kim and Remy Ma - are more than happy for her.

Other artists from around the world have also followed suit.

But, the debate continues with no signs of ending.
