Fire breaks out in Alexandra

Details are still clear but it’s understood several homes caught alight earlier in the informal settlement earlier on Thursday afternoon.

JOHANNESBURG - A fire has ripped through a part of Alexandra leaving scores of people homeless.

Details are still clear but it’s understood several homes caught alight earlier in the informal settlement earlier on Thursday afternoon.

At least 50 shacks were on fire in Alexandra as residents rushed to save as many belongings as possible.

Firefighters continue to battle the blaze.

A few moments ago, an explosion came from a shack sending scores of onlookers running for cover. Firefighters are expected to battle the fire well into the evening.

No injuries have been reported yet.
