Zim electoral chief denies being in relationship with presidential candidate
The electoral commission chair, Priscilla Chigumba, has expressly denied having an affair with one of Zimbabwe’s 23 presidential candidates.
HARARE - The head of Zimbabwe’s electoral commission, Priscilla Chigumba has denied that she is in a relationship with one of the 23 presidential candidates.
With just two weeks to go before elections in the country, Chigumba has been accused of showing bias towards the ruling party.
Chigumba has made an eloquent defence of herself. During an interview on Monday night with local radio station Capitalk, Chigumba said that her private life should remain private.
But she insisted she was not in any relationship that is likely to jeopardise her role.
The electoral commission chair expressly denied having an affair with one of Zimbabwe’s 23 presidential candidates.
Rumours of that swirled on Monday, raising fresh questions about the judge’s ability to run this month’s elections impartially.
Prominent local journalist Edmund Kudzayi has subsequently alleged on Twitter that Chigumba is in a relationship with a married cabinet minister.

Pressed by @RuvhenekoP on why she wore a partisan scarf she said it was BEFORE she was ZEC chair. But the scarf maker has a different story to tell. See end of video.

Chigumba is telling the truth that she is not in a relationship with a presidential candidate. I never mentioned a “presidential” candidate. Her lover is a married cabinet minister. Let’s talk on Wednesday tipedze nyaya yacho. https://t.co/FduVGpyMAY— Edmund Kudzayi (@EdmundKudzayi) July 16, 2018
