PRETORIA - Nigeria is making a play at becoming Africa’s cultural capital.

French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to visit a nightclub owned by Nigerian music legend Fela Kuti.

Macron is familiar with Nigeria, having trained at the French embassy in Lagos as an intern about 15 years ago.

Nigeria’s making the most of his visit with officials, saying it is giving Johannesburg a run for its money as the cultural mecca of the continent.

Macron is in Lagos after visiting Mauritania to speak about security issues on the fringes of the African Union summit and then stopping in Abuja for talks with President Muhammadu Buhari.
