[LISTEN] Battle for Knysna: Mayor defends decision to oust Bouw-Spies

CapeTalk host Kienno Kammies interviews Knysna Mayor Mark Willemse and DA Western Cape leader Bonginkosi Madikizela.

CAPE TOWN - Mark Willemse says he took a “vote of conscience” when he voted against the former mayor, as Knysna was suffering.

Willemse became mayor after Eleanore Bouw-Spies was voted out during a motion of no confidence brought by the ANC. It’s understood DA members sided with the ANC. The DA’s Western Cape leader Bonginkosi Madikizela, however, has condemned the move.

Willemse, who stepped down as Eden District Speaker shortly after being named mayor, says he “had to do something” to save the municipality, adding the Hawks are investigating a case of maladministration. But Madikizela doesn’t agree.
