PRETORIA – Eyewitness News has learnt that Police Minister Bheki Cele on Tuesday met with the country's top Crime Intelligence officers and identified the priorities they need to focus on.

The meeting comes amidst a spike in cash-in-transit heists and taxi violence and as questions are being raised about the capacity of the Crime Intelligence unit to combat organised crime.

During Cele's visit to Crime Intelligence headquarters in Pretoria on Tuesday, he identified four priority crimes which need attention.

These are cash-in-transit-heists, gangsterism, political killings and taxi violence.

He also highlighted kidnappings and robberies.

According to sources present at the meeting, Cele only mentioned one individual by name, alleged Cape Town gang boss Jerome ‘Donkie' Booysen.

Officers say Cele encouraged the members to work hard to fight crime.
