3 children die in Bekkersdal shack fire
The incident happened at the Spooktown informal settlement in Bekkersdal.
JOHANNESBURG - Three children died on Tuesday night when the shack they were sleeping in caught alight.
The incident happened at the Spooktown informal settlement in Bekkersdal.
The three children were aged between 2 and 11.

#Bekkersdal The mother allegedly managed to escape with her one year old. The father called for help, he was outside. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

According to a police report, the children's mother was sleeping in a seperate room with her youngest child when the fire started. She managed to escape from the burning shack.
Two of the children died on the scene while the third was rushed to the Bekkersdal EMS where he died.
Police have opened an inquest into the incident.
