JOHANNESBURG – Tshwane Metro Police are monitoring a number of protests in the capital on Tuesday morning.

Several streets in Mabopane, Winterveldt and Ga-Rankuwa have been barricaded with burning tyres.

Just a few kilometers away, officers are dealing with another demonstration in Atteridgeville.

It is understood that the protests are over taxi turf wars.

The Tshwane Metro police's Isaac Mahamba says: “We want to unblock those areas, we don’t want to inconvenience the residents of those areas.

“We know for the fact that most of the commuters around those areas have been affected due to withdrawal of some of the taxis and some bus companies.”
