WC Transport MEC threatens to shut down problematic taxi ranks
At least 10 people have died since Friday in a string of shootings many of which have been linked to taxi violence.
CAPE TOWN – The Western Cape's Transport MEC says if needs be, he will shut down problematic taxi ranks in Cape Town.
“I’m giving notice of my intention based on evidence to close certain ranks and routes to shut them down.”
Donald Grant says the violence has reached crisis proportions.
At least 10 people have died since Friday in a string of shootings, many of which have been linked to taxi violence.
Security has been bolstered at several ranks while a meeting is scheduled for Monday between taxi associations and authorities.
Prior to this past weekend, there was another rash of deadly taxi shootings.
