CAPE TOWN ā€“ The Western Cape's Transport MEC says if needs be, he will shut down problematic taxi ranks in Cape Town.

ā€œIā€™m giving notice of my intention based on evidence to close certain ranks and routes to shut them down.ā€

Donald Grant says the violence has reached crisis proportions.

At least 10 people have died since Friday in a string of shootings, many of which have been linked to taxi violence.

Security has been bolstered at several ranks while a meeting is scheduled for Monday between taxi associations and authorities.

Prior to this past weekend, there was another rash of deadly taxi shootings.
