Steve Kekana to receive SAMA24 lifetime achievement award
Kekana says one should always be prepared to be bestowed with great opportunities and he is honoured to be celebrated alongside legends such as Mbongeni Ngema.
JOHANNESBURG – South African music icon Steve Kekana says the announcement by the South African music Awards (SAMA) to give him a Lifetime Achievement Award has made him feel elated and humbled at the same time.
In a statement, SAMA24 indicated that Steve Kekana and two other music veterans Spokes H and Mbongeni Ngema will be presented with the prestigious awards at this year’s ceremony.
Famously known for his smash hit, Take Your Love, Steve Kekana was born on 4 August 1958 in Zebediela, Limpopo.

Kekana lost his sight at age five and attended a school for the blind in Polokwane where he discovered his singing voice there and became a member of amateur groups as a teen.
The veteran says since he started releasing music, he has always wanted to reach the highest echelon in the industry, and this accolade is a sign to show that he has obtained it.
Speaking to Eyewitness News, Kekana says one should always be prepared to be bestowed with great opportunities and he is honoured to be celebrated alongside legends such as Mbongeni Ngema, who has produced great works in the worlds of music, theatre and film his most famous being the iconic theatre/film productions such as Sarafina.
Along said these two great artists being celebrated at the SAMA24 is music legend Letona Spokes Hlatshwayo famously known as Spokes H.
Spokes H has graced music lovers with hits songs such as Tamatisous, Rabaki and Peace Magnets. He died aged 45 in 2013.
The legendary musician, who has more than 40 albums to his credit says he is planning to increase this number by releasing another album this year in July.
An album which he says it will appeal to young and old people. The veteran says he worked with young and talented musicians from Durban whom he says they have introduced him to new and exciting sounds.
Kekana says he worked very hard and he appreciates everyone who has enabled him to realise his dreams.
SAMA24 will take place on the second of June.
