SA 'Black Panther' fans ready for big premiere night
The Marvel Studios movie, which broke numerous box office pre-sale records in the UK, is showing in theatres across the country tonight.
JOHANNESBURG - The day many movie and comic fans have been waiting for has arrived. Black Panther, the much-anticipated Afro-superhero film, finally premieres in movie theatres in South Africa and many can't wait to see it.
Black Panther follows T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to take his rightful place as king.
Chadwick Boseman stars as the movie's lead character.
South African acting legends, John Kani and Connie Chiume, who also star in the movie, will be joined by American-based stars Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira at the red carpet event and screening at Monte Casino in Johannesburg.
A number of other local celebrities are also expected at the event.
To celebrate Black Panther being the first superhero movie based on an African character, traditional attire and afro-chic will be dress code theme of the night, tying in with the African-themed wardrobe put together especially for the cast.
Some have already taken to social media to show off what they'll be wearing tonight.

Black Panther has already smashed the box office record in the UK for a movie released in the month of February and is poised to surpass 2017's superhero hit, Deadpool.
