Call for ‘fearless mentor’ Tsvangirai to be declared Zim national hero

ZIMBABWE - Tributes have been pouring in for Zimbabwe’s main opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai who died from cancer.
The 66-year-old died at a Johannesburg hospital on Thursday night.
There’ve been calls for the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) president to be declared a national hero, a status usually reserved for members of the ruling party.
Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions said they had been robbed of a fearless mentor. It was at the ZCTU more than 20 years ago that he began his fight for a new Zimbabwe.
In 1999, he and some of his colleagues from the ZCTU were key founding members of the MDC.
Politician David Coltart on Thursday said while Tsvangirai made some mistakes, he was committed to transforming Zimbabwe and deserved to be called a hero.
Whilst Morgan Tsvangirai undoubtedly is a hero of heroes and deserves this status more than most it is unlikely that ZANU PF will confer that on him. Generally they confer that honour on those who believe in violence or the obscenely corrupt and MT was neither of those. https://t.co/CNsQMIeK8w

Foreign embassies in Harare have also extended their condolences.
My heartfelt condolences go out to those affected by the terrible high school shooting yesterday in Florida. The UK mourns, alongside our friends in the United States, this tragic loss of life
