HARARE - Zimbabwe’s opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s health is reported to have deteriorated rapidly.
The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) leader is receiving treatment for colon cancer at the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre in Johannesburg.
An MDC official has told Eyewitness News that Tsvangirai is not receiving visitors at the moment, possibly a sign of how serious his condition is.
A report in Zimbabwe’s private _Daily News _on Tuesday quoted family sources saying Tsvangirai is battling for his life.
Tsvangirai, 65, has been the MDC’s figurehead since the party was founded nearly 20 years ago.
He had hoped to lead the MDC into elections midway through this year, though of course, those wouldn’t have been against his old rival Robert Mugabe, who had to step down after a military takeover in November.
