CAPE TOWN – South African singing sensation Belinda Davids’ performance at the Apollo Christmas show in New York could leave you with goosebumps and feeling proudly South African.

The Apollo Theatre is known for having a “tough audience” that has no problem booing people off stage.

Davids, a known Whitney Houston tribute act, took to the stage to perform Houston’s classic I will always love you and admitted to being nervous.

Despite the scepticism of some in the crowd before her performance, Davids did Houston justice with a breathtaking performance and received a standing ovation.

Davids shared the video on social media and it's already received more than 46,000 views.

The show also featured other artists, including Snoop Dogg, DMX and Fifth Harmony.

The singer hails from Port Elizabeth. She started performing at the age of 14.

While she was signed by record labels before, Davids said it never worked out.

"Because I have such a passion for singing and music, I never gave up. I have two boys and I think they're my driving force," she explained in the video.

She toured South Africa earlier this year as part of the Whitney Houston tribute show.
