Sanef welcomes announcement of probe into assault of journalist at #ANC54

JOHANNESBURG - The South African National Editors’ Forum (Sanef) has welcomed African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa's announcement that the party will investigate an incident at the elective conference involving a journalist and a security official.
Sam Mkokeli was shoved and threatened with arrest after he complained about waiting in the sun for some time for a briefing by Ramaphosa.
In his maiden speech, Ramaphosa says he has requested a report on the incident.
Sanef chair Mahlatse Mahlase says this is comforting, especially after former party leader Jacob Zuma accused the media of working for foreign powers.
“We appreciate the fact that he acknowledged our role guaranteed by the Constitution and moved away from President Zuma’s attacks that were without any basis or evidence.”
