JOHANNESBURG - The English city of Birmingham has been confirmed as the host city for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) confirmed on Thursday.
The bidding process for the global spectacle has endured some problems in recent times.
Durban was initially awarded the hosting rights in 2015, but was disqualified for not meeting the CGF’s criteria.
Birmingham’s initial bid was also deemed as not good enough, and other cities like Victoria in Canada and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia were given the opportunity to resubmit their bids, but none of them submitted before the 30 September cutoff date.
The CGF received only Birmingham’s bid before the deadline date.
