JOHANNESBURG - Traffic volumes are expected to peak on Friday as holiday makers make their way to various holiday destinations for the Christmas period.

Law enforcement agencies say they will remain on high alert on major national roads during this festive season.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation has urged motorist and pedestrians to remain vigilant.

Spokesperson Simon Zwane says: “Many people have already been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

“There’s a big focus on that this and we’re also advising people to make sure that their vehicles are safe because we’ve already impounded cars that we found were not safe to be on the road.”
