CAPE TOWN - The Cape Minstrel Carnival Association will have to find money elsewhere after losing a court battle over funding.

The Western Cape High Court on Tuesday dismissed an application brought by the association.

City bosses say they have been vindicated by the courts.

The city's JP Smith says: “The court dismissed the application with cost. We hope the Cape Minstrel Carnival Association will now move beyond the wastage of time and money on court action and instead focus on the minstrel troops who look to them for guidance.”

The city says the group didn't follow proper procedures. It adds that all requests for funding were considered.
