SJC ‘disappointed’ as Sinoxolo Mafevuka murder accused acquitted
Police arrested cousins Xolisa and Athabile Mafilika shortly after the 19-year-old's body was found in March last year.
CAPE TOWN - The Social Justice Coalition (SJC) says it's disappointed by the verdict against two men accused of the rape and murder of Sinoxolo Mafevuka in Khayelitsha.
On Monday, cousins Xolisa and Athabile Mafilika were acquitted in the Western Cape High Court.
Police arrested them shortly after the 19-year-old's body was found in March last year.
The SJC's Axolile Notywala said: “I think it’s important to note that this has taken time and put a strain on the family. That’s why it’s very important to look at some of the issues that have to do with police investigations and how investigations on this side of town are done.”
