Zuma missed opportunity to address crucial issues, say SACP, Cosatu
President Zuma delivered his final address as ANC president on Saturday, in which he reflected on his rule.
Zuma delivered his final address as party president on Saturday, in which he reflected on his rule.
He also used the address to accuse civil society groups of mobilising hostile opposition and also the media for failing to be impartial.
The SACP’s Solly Mapaila says that it is unfortunate that Zuma used his address to defend himself.
“Instead of using that platform for introspection and self-criticism that would have rubbed off on ANC members, he sent guilt to some other people and not himself. That was quite unfortunate. We think his legacy was full of a lack of example.”
Cosatu's Bheki Ntshalintshali says the country looked to Zuma for inspiration.
“The world was looking at him, the alliance was looking at him and the country was looking at him. I think we left the other minor issues, regarded as irritants, and addressed the nation to say that we have unemployment and other crisis. We need to be united. The ANC has the responsibility to unite this country.”
