CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Blood Transfusion Service says while the festive season is in full swing, it is calling on donors to still make time to donate blood.

The service currently has blood stocks for three days.

Its aim is to have a five-day supply at all time.

The organisation says the Easter holiday, winter season and the festive period are usually its difficult collection times.

The service’s Irene van Schalkwyk said: “The festive season is traditionally a difficult collection period. We’re not able to have our normal clinics, and blood donation is the last thing on people's minds. So, at this stage, we only have a three-day blood supply and we’re encouraging people to make their way to donor centres.”
