KZN ANC may back Maite Nkoane-Mashabane as party treasurer-general
Until now, Nomvula Mokonyane has been the province's nominee for the treasurer-general post.
JOHANNESBURG - African National Congress (ANC) KwaZulu-Natal chairperson Sihle Zikalala says that the province may back Maite Nkoana-Mashabane for the post of treasurer-general and put Nomvula Mokonyane forward for the position of second deputy secretary-general.
Until now, Mokonyane has been the province's nominee for the treasurer-general post.
“In the province, comrade Nomvula Mokonyane was nominated as the TG but in our discussion there is a view that TG must be comrade Maite Nkoane-Mashabane, which we’re saying we’re not having a problem with but we say comrade Nomvula Mokonyane could be second DSG.”
Speaking on Radio 702 on Thursday night, Zikalala said the province supported changing the party's constitution to allow for two deputy secretary-generals.
But he says it will not support the proposal for two deputy presidents that was floated by President Jacob Zuma at the party's mid-year policy conference.
“I know that there will be comrades who might be pushing for it but from the point of KwaZulu-Natal, we’re not going to support it.”
