Mantashe: It's all systems go for conference
The ANC NEC’s members went on a walkabout at the Nasrec centre to satisfy themselves that all is in order for the weekend's conference.
JOHANNESBURG - As the African National Congress’s national executive committee (NEC) sits for the last meeting of its term on Thursday afternoon, secretary-general Gwede Mantashe says those who predict the collapse of this weekend’s conference will be sorely disappointed.
The party’s highest decision-making structure is sitting at Nasrec in the south of Johannesburg where the national conference will take place this weekend.
NEC members went on a walkabout at the Nasrec centre to satisfy themselves that all is in order for the conference.
Mantashe says it’s all systems go.
“Conference is on its way to the proper ending of a conference of the ANC. It is going to be the most well organised, most engaged.”
He’s also given advice for the incoming president.
He said: “Work as a team as much as possible. You will mitigate against all the challenges.”
Mantashe has dismissed concerns of possible violence during the crucial gathering.
