JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi is calling on parents and the community to closely monitor their children for possible suicidal behavior.

This follows the death of two grade 11 pupils from Pretoria schools in separate incidents where they both committed suicide allegedly after failing their grade.

A teenage boy from a high school Ekangala was found by his mother hanging in the garage at his home.

In another incident, an 18-year-old from Tiyelelani Secondary School in Soshanguve threw himself in front of a moving train.

Lesufi says there are resources available to troubled pupils.

“We have a permanent agreement wilt Lovelife and Childline; these are experts who deal with problems and I would urge parents to get help from them.”
