Health dept assures SA there aren’t new cases of listeriosis

JOHANNESBURG - The National Health Department says there aren't any new reported deaths as a result of listeriosis following an outbreak throughout the country.

At least 36 people have died from the outbreak with more than 550 cases of the outbreak have been reported so far.

The department says the cases were reported in Gauteng, the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

Listeriosis is treatable bacteria which can be found in vegetation, soil and water.

The department's Popo Maja said, “There are no deaths reported and no indication that there are new infections.”
