Sentence handed to Lache Stols's killer welcomed
Anthea Kleynahns was sentenced to an effective 18 years imprisonment for beating the 3-year-old repeatedly over a period of three months.
CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Social Development has welcomed a prison term that has been handed down to a Blackheath woman who has been convicted of murdering her boyfriend's three-year-old daughter.
Anthea Kleynahns was sentenced to an effective 18 years imprisonment in the Western Cape High Court on Thursday.
Kleynhans beat little Lache Stols to repeatedly over a period of three months at their home in Happy Valley.
The department says it holds a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of child abuse, neglect, abandonment or murder.
It says the courts must send a strong message to society that the mistreatment and killing of children, is simply unacceptable and severely punishable.
Kleynhans says she used to beat three-year-old Stols because she believed the child was deliberately soiling herself.
She cared for the little girl while her boyfriend was at work.
The man will be sentenced on Monday.
