Manenberg gangsters handed life sentences for murder of rival

CAPE TOWN - Police have welcomed hefty sentences handed down to four Manenberg gangsters in connection with the murder of 43-year-old Simon Johnson in October 2016.

The men were each sentenced to life behind bars in the Western Cape High Court on Thursday.

Kaylem Bartlet, Rushdien Meyer, Garren Paulse and Amien Jaffer were found guilty in November.

In addition to murder, they were also sentenced in terms of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act, for attempted murder and the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The sentences will run concurrently.

Provincial police management says the punishment reflects the seriousness of their offences and how they have terrorised Cape Town communities.
