JOHANNESBURG – A hijacked building kingpin and a former attorney have been sentenced to eight and 15 years behind bars respectively.

Sinethemba Mkhumbuzi and his accomplice Kenneth Ntila were handed the sentences in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court.

They were found guilty of falsifying company records and illegally registering themselves as owners of a hijacked building.

The pair had managed to obtain a court order which resulted in the eviction of tenants from the Angus Mansions, most of them were left sleeping on the street.

The City of Johannesburg’s Lucky Sindane says this sentence will send a strong message to other criminals illegally occupying buildings.

“One of the buildings hijacked and handed over to the rightful owner a couple of day ago, the hijackers themselves contacted us and handed the building back. They didn’t want to be arrested.”
