Parliament ‘can't take action yet’ over Makwakwa probe
Senior Sars official Jonas Makwakwa is the focus of a criminal investigation by the Hawks relating to the suspicious transactions in his accounts.
JOHANNESBURG - Parliament's Standing Committee on Finance says it cannot take any action at this stage in relation to investigations faced by senior Sars official Jonas Makwakwa.
Makwakwa is a focus of a criminal investigation by the Hawks relating to the suspicious transactions in his accounts and his fellow Sars employee Kelly-Ann Elskie flagged by the Financial Intelligence Centre last year.
On Tuesday law firm Hogan Lovells appeared before the committee to explain its role in the investigation into Makwakwa.
Committee member Alf Lees says all legal counsels involved in this matter should come to an agreement.
“We don’t get reports, we don’t know the real facts on these matters, so we have to try and extract it as we go along.”
