Ekurhuleni to crackdown on illegal land occupiers
Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina says he’s concerned about ongoing land invasions in the city.
JOHANNESBURG - Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina says he’s concerned about ongoing land invasions in the city and discourages people from resorting to land grabs.
He says the metro has put measures in place to crackdown on those who occupy land illegally.
Masina says land grab is not in line with government policy.
“We’ve taken a firm decision as the city that all the council-owned land will be prepared and given to the people so there’s no need for people to invade the land. When you invade the land you’re basically destabilising us from doing our work.”
He adds the city is providing land on the basis of merit.
“We have backlogs of people who live in backyards, informal settlements and hostels.”
