Sars maintains it found no misconduct against Makwakwa
Jonas Makwakwa is back at his job in Sars after he was placed on paid leave following the allegations.
JOHANNESBURG - Sars says it has not found any misconduct committed by senior official Jonas Makwakwa who is facing a Hawk's criminal investigation into unusual payments linked to him and his partner and fellow Sars employee, Kelly Ann-Elskie.
Makwakwa is back at his job in Sars after he was placed on paid leave following the allegations.
Speaking on 702’s Karima Brown Shown on Wednesday evening, Sars spokesperson Luther Lebelo says they can only investigate misconduct committed by their employees.
“The only thing we can investigate on employees in misconduct, the Tax Administration Act regulates our relationship with the citizens of the country as taxpayers.”
